Media Training

The 24-hour news cycle, and an increased emphasis on newsrooms as profit centers, is transforming everything about your relations with the news media. Knowing how to communicate in this changing environment has become one of the most critical skills of the 21st century.

Our media training program is designed and customized for your company. It’s built around your issues, your needs and your goals. We talk with you beforehand to learn as much as we can you and your company.

We then build your program to fit your timeframe, the number of participants and on the issues for which you’d like to prepare. You can choose from one of the following formats, or we’ll develop one tailored to your needs.

Our two-hour briefing is for those who will be facing the media on a particular issue or who may have had previous media experience. It is designed to assure they get their message across.

The half-day course provides an excellent basic understanding of the media and how it covers the news. We prepare participants to handle routine print and broadcast interviews and then put them through rigorous mock-interviews.

The one-day course gives an in-depth understanding of media interview techniques and prepares the participant to take control in any circumstance. It includes on-camera interviews and critiques for up to six participants, though it is most effective when limited to three or four.

We also provide one-on-one executive briefings. The training is usually structured as a split day, with approximately two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. This intense program is ideal for the busy executive who cannot be out of the office for an entire day. It is an excellent setting for preparing for very confidential issues in anticipation of media coverage.

In our training we illustrate how you can communicate effectively with reporters without the risk of being quoted out of context or misquoted. We help you understand the mentality of the media, how to help the reporter define the story and how to not only deliver your key messages but also provide compelling quotes. By the end of the day, the participant will be fully prepared for any reporter and their Q&A session
